While searching for its FOREVER home, our DITR has been hosted at multiple locations with a variety of riding styles and instructors. We have been truly blessed over the past 5 years as we have seen our program grow into individualized programs with 25 kids. The path has taken us to many mountain tops and through many valleys, but by the Grace and Faithfulness of God, WHY Ranch now has its own 4 acre property to call home. Our ranch is here to serve our Youth, Families and Community in the City of Las Vegas while demonstrating the Hope we find in Christ.
HISTORY IS IN THE MAKING
In 2005, Amy Meyer-Terry was at a crossroads in her life. She had moved to Las Vegas to care for her grand- parents Paul and Helen Meyer. During those 12 years, Amy learned of the deep love her grandparents had for Education, Family and Community. After their passing, Amy asked, “What do You want me to do Lord? What plans do You now have for my life?” Amy was introduced to Crystal Peaks Youth Ranch in Bend, Oregon and the journey began. Amy says, "I believe the Lord urged me to really research CPYR." Ever since, she has been working to fulfill the desire to offer children a nature-based, hope infused program in Las Vegas.
White Horse Youth Ranch received its 501c3 non- profit status in 2006, and in 2009 the Diamonds in the Rough program started with just 4 kids. Our first ‘Diamonds’ were such an amazing group of kids who entered our program broken and shy. Words cannot describe the transformation. On the first day of our program, they were insecure as they affixed their helmets on their heads with uncertainty of the day before them. Then, there is that moment …that look in their eyes…. when nothing else exists except their horse and the wind flowing through their hair.
"The Lord is close to the Broken Hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit". Psalm 34:18
